Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)

Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are the activities that allow an individual to live independently. These activities may not be completed daily, but they require the ability to think, plan and follow through to action and add to quality of life.

Most often, this is where your caregiver journey begins…when an older adult you care about needs help with:

  • Cooking
  • Shopping
  • Cleaning
  • Transportation
  • Laundry
  • Managing the household
  • Using technology
  • Managing finances
  • Managing healthcare including medication
